A few weeks ago I went over why the Chiefs have lost their fan base during the Pioli years. Not getting the team out in the public eye as well as not having good press relations have really hurt their relationship with the fans. Read More… It seems that the new regime have learned from Pioli’s mistakes and are playing along with the Leon Sandcastle spoof.
Leon ‘Deion’ Sandcastle made an appearance at the Chiefs Arrowhead training complex Monday April 1st to be interviewed by Head Coach Andy Reid, or should I say Andy Reid be interviewed by Leon. Leon Tweeted that teams don’t interview Leon but Leon interviews teams. Leon said in his interview by NFL Network,
“Andy Reid did a great job in his interview with Leon, I asked him some tough questions why he left Philly so abruptly and he responded well. So I really feel good about Andy, and I feel good about Andy getting Leon the ball.”
He was asked about what impressed him the most about Head Coach Andy Reid,
“I like his size” Leon said.
When he was asked about when he got the news about being the Chiefs No. 1 pick Leon simply said,
“I got the news when I was born.”
However there maybe some attitude issues with this pick. Seems Leon thinks pretty highly of himself. When asked about whether he would go to training camp Leon said,
“Leon don’t do training camp.”
Some say that the attitude is something that goes along with a player like Leon Sandcastle and you just have to accept it if you want a player of his caliber.
Leon did say that he would go to the 2013 NFL Draft but if he wasn’t picked number 1 overall “Leon will get up and walk out, and go home”.
When asked about holding out Leon said that he would not do that but kind of hinted that KC will have to maybe take out a second mortgage on the stadium when he said,
“Last time a team wrote Leon a check the bank bounced.”
