Will the Chiefs trade T Brandon Albert? That’s a good question.
The news wires have been flooded this week about the Chiefs listening to offers, as well as actively pursuing trading partners for Albert.
Sports Illustrated’s Peter King started it with Chiefs will “listen to offers”, and Garafolo’s USA Today report says that the Chiefs “aren’t desperate” to trade Albert but realize another team would pay him.
Let’s face it, the Chiefs have not signed Albert to a long term contract yet because the Chiefs will not pay him what he wants. More than likely that will not change. KC is already over the salary cap and with the Draft coming up know that more money will be needed to sign those guys.
I don’t think the trade will happen unless the Chiefs receive a #1 pick in this years draft for Albert. Why would you go with anything less? Brandon Albert is a Pro Bowl Tackle in the NFL, last year Albert only allowed 1 sack and only had 1 holding call called against him. That is unheard of!
If you trade Albert and receive a #1 for him then you are still taking a huge risk with your freshly signed ‘very expensive’ QB Alex Smith.
Smith will be behind a couple of guys who are trying to get the rookie shakes out of their game. One rookie OL is bad enough but two may be a little painful for Alex Smith.
In my opinion if the trade goes through then we will see two #1 picks in the Offensive Line. If the trade does not, then you will still see KC going after a OL in the first round. They then would pick another one up a little higher to train under Albert.
My wish is that both sides may budge a little and work out a long term contract. I like Albert and think he would be an excellent lineman for the Chiefs for years to come.
